John and Alice Coltrane house

Preserving artist's roots

John and Alice Coltrane moved into this Dix Hills 1952 brick farm ranch house in 1964 embarking on a period of explosive creativity and artistic achievement including the composition of “A Love Supreme” in the upstairs bedroom of the Home, regarded as one of the seminal musical works of the twentieth century and Alice Coltrane’s groundbreaking series of albums for Impulse! recorded in the basement studio of the Home.  The Home was awarded the National Treasure designation from the National Trust for Historic Preservation as well as being a recent Mellon Fund grantee. The home is now an internationally significant historic site and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
